Procalcitonin test is for people:
Who are seriously ill and have signs and symptoms of a systemic infection or sepsis
Suffering from signs & symptoms that may be due to a bacterial infection
Main purpose of the Procalcitonin test:
To help diagnose sepsis if a person is critically ill
To help determine the risk of progressing to severe sepsis & septic shock
To help identify serious bacterial infections and to distinguish between bacterial & non-bacterial conditions
To help guide antibiotic treatment
Sample Required:
Blood sample drawn from a vein in the arm
